John Larsen, MD, QME is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in reconstructive spinal surgery. He maintains an active clinical practice focused on the evaluation and treatment of spinal conditions, orthopaedic trauma, and degenerative neuromusculoskeletal disorders.
Dr. Larsen completed his orthopaedic residency at LAC/USC Medical Center in Los Angeles and then completed a reconstructive spinal surgery fellowship, providing him with specialized expertise in managing complex spinal conditions at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey. His clinical approach is grounded in established standards of care, with an emphasis on accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment selection, and evidence-based surgical techniques.
The clinical training undergone by Dr. Larsen took place at the LAC/USC Medical Center, one of the most demanding trauma environments in the United States. Completing both a rotating surgical internship and a four-year residency in orthopedic surgery at this institution allowed him to manage an extraordinary volume of complex musculoskeletal trauma injuries. The residency experience at LAC/USC is characterized by high-pressure decision-making and the surgical management of severe injuries, ranging from high-velocity ballistic trauma to multi-system fractures resulting from motor vehicle accidents.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Larsen serves as a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME), providing medical evaluations in workers’ compensation. He also performs IMEs and expert witness consulting. He conducts comprehensive record reviews, performs in-person evaluations, and prepares thorough medical-legal reports with a commitment to accuracy and efficiency at every stage of the process. As a QME, he values timeliness and is cognizant of the critical role that prompt reporting and timely determination of Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI) play in helping all parties reach resolution efficiently.
